A Thermometer
Try this enquiry at home and either post your results on the Blog or make me a poster that we can display in the school library. Use a digital camera if you have one to enhance your poster or add to your post.
Resources:
A plastic bottle (not glass as it may shatter), a balloon, a bowl of very hot but not boiling water, a bowl of ice cubes.
Safety note: take extra care with the hot water, make sure there is an adult present.
What to do:
Place a pre-stretched balloon over the mouth of an empty plastic bottle.
Stand the bottle in a bowl of very hot water and observe what happens.
Then put the bottle into a bowl of ice cubes and again watch what happens.
Draw or photograph and describe your results.
Can you explain what has happened? Use your results, the internet and books to help you.
